I have always enjoyed creating art. I used to do it for myself, and to some extent, I still do. I discovered "design" in my first year of theatre school, and realized that I can use my passion for art and creativity and apply it to ideas and language.
Theatre school taught me how to think creatively, and also the practical skills required to translate vague concepts into concrete forms. I learned how to draw stage plans, and what lights to use, and how to think in terms of lumber. I soon realized that the plans and the lights and the lumber were just tools. I already had the creativity part. If I could learn those tools, then I could learn to use tools like the camera, Photoshop, and HTML. So I dove in and learned these new sets of tools, and opened up my creative options.
The very first show I designed was a high school production of Oliver! in 2002. From there, I went on to design sets and lights for over 30 different productions. |
I've worked as a self-taught freelance graphic designer and as a permanent staff Art Director, desiging books, posters, advertising, and websites. |
